Report from the seminar titled "City as we want"

Young Researchers of Serbia held a seminar titled "City as we want" - transport in Belgrade, 02 February 2009. in hall 3 of Novi Beograd, starting at 10.00.

The aim of the seminar is based on the fact that different actors (urban institutions, representatives of municipalities, NGOs and others) present the current state of and plans for traffic in Belgrade, exchange experiences and to develop a platform for further cooperation.

The seminar is part of the project''campaign to improve urban transport in Zagreb and Belgrade,''the Young Researchers of Serbia realized in cooperation with Green Action, Zagreb.

The project will last until January 2010th , and is being implemented with support from the Regional Center for Environmental Central Eastern Europe (REC), within SECTOR program that is funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Starting from the fact that large cities in the SEE region are faced with the increasing number of cars (which leads to reduction of air quality in cities, reduction or distortion of public areas for the construction of garages and increasing problems in public transport), campaigns in Zagreb and Belgrade want to improve existing condition.

The aim is to influence the policy of transportation in the cities of South East Europe (SEE), while raising public awareness about the importance of reduced use of cars, the benefits of using public transport as well as the possibility of using alternative means of transportation-primarily bike.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the Environmental Association of Vrsac, Ecological Movement Dragacevo, Sabac Ecological Movement, Ecological Movement "Ibar" Kraljevo and activists Young Researchers of Serbia and koorinatori other NGOs.
